Sharing the LOVE: A Valentine to Our Supporters
In January, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Oregon celebrated Mentoring Month. One of our “Bigs”, Dr. Jared Adams, told us he is a Defender Of Potential because “My Big invested in me and changed my life.” People want to contribute!
Last month, a thank you arrived from a new grandmother. Her 18-year-old son had become a dad and the family was overwhelmed by strained relationships, stretched finances, tight spaces, and the midnight feeding schedule. Kindred Connections’ volunteers rallied in the busy days leading to Christmas and gathered necessities and gifts, giving her time to focus on family. People are kind!
Groundbreaking for the Vocational Program happened in December at the Boys Ranch! A young man in our program stood in front of the gathered crowd and spoke. Public speaking can be intimidating for anyone, but this boy, who came to us out of the juvenile justice system, showed confidence and poise as he spoke about his education and future. People respond to encouragement and support!
A young mother at Grandma’s House whose dietary limitations require she cook almost all food from scratch recently mastered the Instant Pot, and hoped for one of her own. Woody posted the story on Facebook and in 7 minutes one was promised by a follower. People are generous!
A former Academy at Sisters student recently texted to let us know that: “School is going well, even though it’s kicking my butt. Family is really good! We don’t really have any arguments anymore, and I’m happy.” People deserve a second chance!
This week a youth moved out of the shelter at the LOFT, and our Cascade Youth and Family Shelter Facebook community rallied to help furnish her new apartment. People want to see others succeed!
Twenty-one years ago two young, new mothers met at Grandma’s House and became friends. Their daughters, Lexie and Miya, were born 3 months apart and have remained best friends to this day. Lexie just sent us her ‘save the date’ for her wedding, where Miya will be her maid of honor. People want to be connected!
Our programs empower young people to build the life and future they want. Your support allows these dreams. We take the opportunity on this Valentine’s Day to express our gratitude and love for you, our supporters.
